Yes, my name is Sebastian Tan.
To begin with, identity card doesn’t have the name Sebastian in it. This name is what i gave myself when i was in secondary school. I was young and impressionable then. I was heavily into heavy metal and hard rock. Chinese pop music then is consider ridiculous to me.
There was this particular band during the 80’s and early 90’s which I listened religiously from my SONY walkman cassette player. Flipping from side A to side B continuously. Anyhoo… that name was inspired by the lead singer in Skid Row whom name is Sebastian Bach.

I came from a neighbourhood school Ping Yi Secondary which motto was Perserverance Yield Success which somehow i still remember til today. My best days came from there together with my best buddies and now girlfriend whom are from there too! Thereafter, I moved on to Nanyang Poly. Taking a course in Manufacturing Engineering which was the only course eligible for me to enrol due to my results in my ‘O’s. And the fuck thing is, on the 1st day of school in poly, I came to know that my classmates have scores that any polytechnic wouldnt even smell to be enrolled.
(I repeated my O levels by the way). So my results in my 1st year of O levels were much better than my classmates now!! I wasted one whole freaking year redoing my O’s. (DULAN!!)
After getting my Diploma, inevitably for many HOT BLOODED male in SG are relunctantly enlisted into national service. A total unforgettable experience. Some experience that put you thru the agony of not bathing for 12 days (my own personal record), drinking dirty water, flipping your underwear inside out 3 times thinkin that it is clean to wear it back again, and after all the fatigue and exhaustion… wearing a flipped underwear doesn’t seem to matter anymore… how can we forget that the so called girlfriend then played you out and ran off with another guy. Leaving u sleepless nights in camp mourning away together with your bunk mates.
Soon after all the bullshit in national service, I came out to work as a florist cum delivery boy in a flowershop in Raffles place while I decide what to do with my life…or rather my working life…
I am not gonna go thru all the jobs I have switched in between cos I think its quite a few. Just to name a few… Advertising Sales, Advertising sales, Project engineering assistant, Membership sales, liqour sales and finally where I am now… Money Lender ( Licensed ) one ok!!
Of cos all these years that had passed, I have been in and out of love quite a few times too… I am not too convinced if I should call it love… cos its kinda “vague”. I wasn’t a good enough lover or boyfriend. But I guess over the years, i have been in and out of relationships and had taught me life lessons that either make oneself more self-protective or a better partner.
Maybe after the age has caught up with ya, you tend to be slightly more appreciative to your surroundings cos they either slowly fading away or just die without you having any preparation. Nothing last forever, only certain thing in life is… death. Appreciate, enjoy and indulge every moment that do you good or even if its a pain in the arse. U will not know when it is going to disappear from your life forever.
Til date, no matter how much I complained about work and my family, I am thankful to have friends and my loves ones… watever… u know la. Thanks watever Thanks :p
